TWS ProeM C&I liquid-cooling energy storage cabinet facilitating the growth of aquaculture industry in Mossel Bay
19/07/2024

Mossel Bay, a bright pearl inlaid in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, is close to the Cape of Good Hope. It is a coastal town that boasts rich cultural heritage, mild climate and pristine beaches. However, due to the overall power situation in South Africa, Mossel Bay also faces the challenges of unstable power supply and rising costs, which adds up to significant pressure on the historic local aquaculture industry. Therefore, exploring stable and efficient energy solutions for the steady development and upgrading of the industry has become a key issue that must be resolved by Mossel Bay.

With keen market insight and professional technical strength, TWS Technology teams up with local aquaculture and processing enterprises to actively seek solutions to power shortage. In the early stage, TWS Technology conducts detailed market research and in-depth analysis of the bottlenecks of local power supply and enterprise growth demands. Based on these efforts, TWS Technology puts forward the 1725kW/2236kWh energy storage system (hereinafter referred to as “ESS”) solution, and finally completes the construction and grid connection in June 2024. The system consists of six ProeM liquid-cooling energy storage cabinets (372kWh for each cabinet), a DC combiner, a 1725kW PCS and a box-type transformer.

Mossel Bay is situated on the coast of the Indian Ocean. Its unique maritime climate brings steady precipitation and significant sea breeze, which puts forward strict requirements on the temperature stability, cycle life and safety of the ESS. To tackle this challenge, TWS Technology carefully selects its ProeM liquid-cooling energy storage cabinet for the solution. ProeM uses the liquid with relatively high thermal conductivity to contact the battery, indirectly or directly, to achieve heat transfer between the solid and the liquid to reduce the battery temperature. In this way, the battery packs maintain the best working temperature conditions. Meanwhile, the service life of battery packs is extended and the energy storage efficiency improves. ProeM has passed strict IP54 rating tests, which proves the product’s functionality and durability in challenging environments such as rainfall and extreme temperatures. Moreover, it has successfully obtained the certifications of UL9540A, IEC62619, and IEC63056, ensuring the stable operation of the device in the complex marine climate. Precise temperature control and BMS optimization help reduce the battery loss, increase the cycle life, and cut down maintenance costs. On the one hand, this ESS solution offers stable power supply, guarantees the sustainable business development of local enterprises, and helps them achieve long-term economic benefits. On the other hand, it contributes to the attainment of the local green goal, which is estimated to reduce local carbon emissions by approximately 2075 tons per year.

The cooperation between TWS Technology and local enterprises in Mossel Bay is another big step forward of TWS Technology on the global energy storage arena. The 1725kW/2236kWh energy storage project provides a paradigm of power supply for the stable operation of key industries in Mossel Bay. Meanwhile, it helps to promote the optimization and upgrading of the energy structure and sustainable development of the region. In the future, TWS Technology will always uphold an increasingly open-minded and inclusive spirit of cooperation, actively embrace the wave of global energy transition, and collaborate with global partners to explore endless potential and creativity in the field of new energy.
